Why was it initiated?

The Berlin Process was initiated to utilize the potential of increased regional cooperation and connectivity in the Western Balkans and bring concrete benefits to the citizens of the region. The idea was to foster a wide range of projects in order to increase connectivity and cooperation in the region, as well as good neighbourly relations and interpersonal relationships, while subsequently supporting the EU integration of the region. Since its initiation, supporting the EU accession processes of the Western Balkan countries with concrete regional initiatives and projects that help prepare countries for membership has been the ultimate goal of the Berlin Process and it has remained unchanged since.
