MEDIA ADVISORY: 10th Berlin Process Joint Science Conference

The official opening of the 10th Berlin Process Joint Science Conference, entitled “Western Balkans in Europe: People - Innovation - Transformation”, will take place on Monday, 12 October, at 5:15 PM, at the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU).

The opening ceremony will feature Prof. Dr Anđela Jakšić-Stojanović, Minister of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro; Academician Ljubiša Stanković, President of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts; Prof. Dr Vladimir Božović, Rector of the University of Montenegro; Danijela Gačević, Head of the Programme Department at the Regional Cooperation Council; and Prof. Dr Bettina Rockenbach, President of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.

The 10th Berlin Process Joint Science Conference, under the theme “Western Balkans in Europe: People - Innovation - Transformation”, will be held in Podgorica from 12 to 14 October 2026.

The conference is jointly organised by the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU), and the University of Montenegro (UCG), with the support of the Government of Montenegro, the Federal Government of Germany, the Rectors’ Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans, the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro, and the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC).

This year’s Berlin Process Joint Science Conference will once again bring together key institutional actors in science, education, research and innovation from the region and Europe, including representatives of national academies, universities and research organisations, as well as experts participating in their individual capacity. The conference will bring together more than 60 distinguished participants from 16 countries.

Building on previous activities, the conference will focus on three key thematic areas: (1) transforming higher education in the context of demographic change, labour market dynamics and artificial intelligence; (2) economic transformation and competitiveness through innovation and entrepreneurship; and (3) modernising the state through the use of scientific expertise in developing solutions for key areas of development.

Through the conference, the organisers and participants reaffirm their shared commitment to the European future of the Western Balkans and to integrating the knowledge sector into the frameworks and policies of the European Union, even before formal accession.

For media, the programme will include the official opening ceremony, while the remainder of the conference will continue in a working format. Media representatives are invited to cover this important event.
